I know that you have paid a lot of money for the in-house software that you use every day for your business, but here’s the thing… Today, your competition is using cutting-edge, cloud-based software. Because of this, on-site software will hurt your business in the long run.
You know the kind of software that I’m talking about. The kind where you buy a copy and install it from a cd or a download. The kind that operates on your computer or server, and if your computer or server dies, there goes your program and all of your data. The part that will make you want to pull your hair out at that point is that the software is now out of date, and the cd you bought for backup is lost or scratched beyond repair.
Simply put, you really don’t want on-site software. It puts your business in a very vulnerable position and does not set up your company for competitive success.
Besides the potential loss of data (which is a REALLY big deal) there are a number of other downsides connected to on-site software.
- Zero Geographical Flexibility – In order to use your program, you have to be sitting in front of a certain computer in a certain building. Either that, or you have to buy multiple copies of the same program and shuffle files between devices. (Note: This is okay if you are still living in 1993.)
- Clunky Collaboration – Recent cloud-applications have made co-authoring a document simultaneously a simple task. Today a group of people anywhere in the globe can work together on the same document at the same time. Using your outdated in-house software means multiple emails, attachments, and versions that end up being unwieldy, clunky, and confusing.
- No Flexibility of Scale – The program that you bought three years ago and installed on your computer can’t be adjusted to the growing or changing demands of your company. It is static and therefore limits you.
- Unending Updates – Don’t you wish that you never had to think about software updates and patches again? Of course! All you have to do is ditch the clunky, old in-house software and embrace cloud-based applications. No more upgrade headaches!
I know that you want to give your business the very best chance to succeed in today’s marketplace. With the downsides that are clearly evident, using in-house software is more of a risk to your company than it is a benefit.
